2015 saw social media conduct the national debate this year and dictated news priorities for mainstream media. The top trend became a headline, a hashtag and a developing story. From the Dress Debate to AIB knockout session, Tippytricks toasts to the top 7 things that went viral in 2015.

THE DRESS A Tumblr post on the color of a dress divided the virtual world into two. While some saw it as blue and black, others saw it as white and gold. The eventual conclusion of it was that the scientists told us that it all lay in the eyes of the beholder, literally.

ANDAZ GERMANY KA We saw two german women lip-syncing to dialogues of the cult classic movie ANDAZ APNA APNA which filled the social media with frenzy. They even mimicked the expressions of Amar and Prem while saying their dialogues.

AIB KNOCKOUT Comedy collective AIB launched a knockout session where celebrities had to poke fun at one another. But things dint go out as planned. The roast show offended more people than it amused. FIRs were lodged against the group and even the actors who attended the show. The video racked up to million views a day but was taken down after pressure mounted.

INTERNET IN DANGER When telecom authority, TRAI issued a public consultation paper on pricing and regulation of apps using mobile internet, the social activist and the common man came together to let the authority know their mind on net neutrality.

​INDIA'S DAUGHTER Filmmaker Leslee Udwin's documentary on the 2012 Nirbhaya rape case was banned from TV and taken down from websites. There were objections raised for giving airtime to a rapist. Though film was uploaded on various platforms garnering thousands of views before being taken down again.

THE ROHTAK SISTERS The Rohtak sisters shone when a video went viral of them fighting off two men in a bus. Initially, reports lauded the two girls as superheroes. But later after investigation, it was reported that the fight was over seats in the bus and the women were possibly the initial aggressors.

UNILEVER KODAIKANAL WON'T The protests against Unilever's plants damaging the environment in Kodaikanal got so publicized that a song on it was developed called the KODAIKANAL WON'T. Set along the lines of Anaconda of Nicki Minaj, the song packaged complex environmental and human rights issue that garnered two million views in a week.
