Tippytricks presents you a look at the most popular words in some countries of this year.

1 EMOJI (UK) Oxford Dictionaries picked 'tears of joy' emoji as its word of the year. It reflects increase in the popularity of the rapidly growing language.

2 LAÏCITÉ and LIBERTÉ d'expression (France) Laïcité which basically implies secularity of the state and 'liberté d'expression' (freedom of expression) have been the topic of debate in France following the attacks on Charles Hebdo in January, which were due to magazine's cartoons being religiously offensive.

3 KRAAMKOST (Belgium) It actually means 'maternity costs' but it refers to the the age old practice of bringing meal to a new mother so the parents can have proper food while looking after the newborn. Though this tradition is not new, but there wasn't a prescribed for it till this year.

4 FLÜCHTLINGE (GERMANY) This word means refugees. It was picked as word of the year for Germany because the country has taken in multitude of refugees- more than any other EU country.

5 SHARING ECONOMY (AUSTRALIA) This term was used the most to infer to the debate around taxi hire app Uber and its effect on the 'traditional' taxi industry in the economy
